The Kokorska
Silks
Welcome
to our exhibition of "The Kokorska Silks", a private
collection of the magical creations of Ukrainian fibre-artist Olga Kokorska.
Olga
works in silk thread on a variety of background fabrics. Using an astonishing
array of freehand stitching techniques she brings a luminosity
and vivacity to her pictures that is impossible to reproduce in paints
or watercolours. The work is meticulous in its detail and colour composition
and, because it is all freehand stitchery, is far more time-consuming
than painting. Her works are frequently mistaken, at first glance, for
oil paintings or photographs. We have no hesitation in declaring that
Olga is among the top five or six artists in the world who work in this
medium. Numerous comments in our guest books from visitors to our public
exhibitions have reinforced this point of view.
Her
art has sold in Ukraine, England, Israel, the USA, Taiwan and Canada.
She lives in the industrial city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine.
At present the
collection resides in Merrickville, Ontario, Canada, a tiny village
just south of the city of Ottawa. If you are in the area it is well
worth a visit to the MOTH Gallery here to see the public exhibition.
This
site contains images of all those pictures that comprise the collection
that we call "The Kokorska Silks" as well as those that have
been sold from the collection to individual collectors. The pictures
in this collection are available for purchase. Olga also accepts commissions.
To truly appreciate silk fibre art it is necessary to examine it up
close. The virtual reality of a computer screen cannot begin to do it
justice. But, for
a sampling, take a tour through our virtual Gallery,
inside.
The
image on the left is a slice from Olga's "Country Lane",
a freehand rendition created without pattern or background image - just
a lot of imagination, an eye for detail, incredible patience and simple
needle and thread, one stitch at a time.
